The End of Power Records?

Ok, time for a little chat...

When I first mentioned (on my approximately seventeen other blogs) my idea for a Power Records blog, I was generously offered audio files of the records by two different people.

Since I don't really have the ability or the time to try and make my own mp3s of the audio recordings, I figured this was a perfect combo--since I own all (or nearly all) of the Power Records, I would provide the scans while the audio files were sent to me.

Unfortunately, one of the two people who made this generous offer to me never followed through, so after about a half-dozen mp3s from the first benefactor, I was left without any audio content. Now what?

I then decided to download the audio files from the Power Records Plaza blog, which is exhaustingly complete. I didn't know whether this is bad internet form or not, but I ultimately figured that since I was providing all the scans, and then hosting the downloaded files, it was ok.

That worked for a few months, and now I have run into another problem--there are few dozen audio files not yet posted here that are only available to listen to over at PRP, not as downloads. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for this, and I tried to find some technical workarounds, but none of it worked.

So today, for the Gemini Man LP, I figured I'll just link to the mp3s hosted by PRP along with my scans. That felt a little less jake, but for the moment I didn't know what else to do.

Now I see, for some reason, the three Gemini Man mp3s that I'm linking to at PRP don't work. I don't know if that's because of some technical glitch, or they're being blocked to stop people from doing what I'm doing, I don't know.

All I do know is, I have lots of scans at the ready, but no matching audio files.

So I'm writing this to ask those of you who visit this site and/or care enough to leave a comment what to do next.

One idea is to simply stop here--end the updates, and leave the blog an unfinished project. I'd leave up what's here, but there wouldn't be anything else new coming up, at least until I find some new way of getting the audio files.

The other idea is to continue posting the scans I have--I still have many LP sleeves and comic book sets to go, and I definitely could still post them here, but without the accompanying audio, or possibly just adding a link to PRP or other audio sites where you could listen to the files from there.

So those of you reading this, let me know. Do you want Power Records to continue in a very diminished form, or should I just put the whole blog on extended hiatus? Please share your thoughts, Power Records fans!

You've gotta keep doing the Power Records Blog! I don't care if all you do is post scans and write scholarly notes on whatever Crusty Bunkers worked on the art -- we can find the audio at Power Records Plaza (or at his brother's blog, whatevah)!

You can't possibly quit before doing a post on the "The Mad Minnows;" if there's a storybook that goes with it, I've GOT TO SEE IT! The audio gives me the giggles.

Make a deal with you and the other regular Power Records blog fans: you scan the images and analyze the art; I'll listen to the audio elsewhere and tell you whether it was done by "the good crew" or "the crap crew."

Please keep up the Power Recods blog! My son and I love it!

Hey...

I've been collecting the mp3s for quite a while... I have all 4 Gemini Man, and quite a few others.

I've been building audio CDs, putting them together with artwork (where possible), and giving them to friends for Christmas gifts.

I don't get to hit here often, but if you can give me a way to contact you, maybe I can send some material to you. You've provided scans, I'm glad to help.
