The Man-Thing - Night of the Laughing Dead!

Track:
Night of the Laughing Dead!

Produced by Herb Davidson and Charlotte Saunders. Written by Steve Gerber, art by Mike Ploog and Frank Chiaramonte. I guess the superhero records weren't quite depressing enough, so they decided to dramatize a story about a suicidal clown.

I've said it before, I'll say it again--the 70s were awesome.

For Christmas one year I received the 4 Power Book and Record sets featuring the Marvel Heroes and the 4 Monster ones. This Man-Thing story scared the crap out of me as a kid. I think I only listned to it once! The clown's voice at the end - creepy!

From the Desk of:
Ichabod J. Moneypants
CEO, Power Records

Fellow Employees,

Our products are not hitting the grim realism that young kids of the '70s are demanding. Please make sure the following elements are part of our upcoming Man-Thing release:

1. A suicidal clown
2. Creepy music whenever the clown appears
3. Lots of punching
4. A groovy young '70s couple exchanging youth-appropriate dialogue such as "Step on it, lover!"
5. A promiscuous high-wire artist
6. Death by car fire
7. A finale featuring the ghost of the clown laughing creepily, which will in no way cause nightmares in the children that read our product

Thanks and happy bicentennial,

IJM

I used to have this one. I was a monster freak when I was a kid and loved it. It's hard to believe my parents ever bought this for me. I couldn't have been more than 5 years old.

Unfortunately, it was lost at some point. It is so great find it here and be able to enjoy it again.

Thanks!

Dude! I've read this story before, but listening was crazy! The really, really slight warp in the record makes it SO MUCH CREEPIER!!!

Also, was it just me or did the narrator sound a little like Stan himself? I'm not saying it was Stan, it just sounded a little like him.

@ The Irredeemable Shag: The narrator was none other than Peter Fernandez, the voice of Speed Racer and Racer X. And was also the voices of Spider-Man ("Mark of the Man-Wolf"), narrator of "The Incredible Hulk at Bay", The Phoenix ("Captain America & the Falcon") and The Human Torch, among others on Power Records.

@TVGuy68 - Thanks for the clarification. It's probably my insatiable love for Stan that led me down that path. :)
