When Power Records bought the license to adapt the Apes series, did how dark the series got ever concern anybody? This film starts out light and goofy, and then ends in a hail of bullets, including the harmless Zira!

Like Mego, Power Records put a lot of money and effort into the Apes franchise, dramatizing four of the films (though oddly not the fourth!).

It's not a bad version of the story, except the ending, which I think is a little botched. The final moments of the film end with the sound of the crashing surf, which obviously could've been replicated here; instead we get Taylor's awkward exposition. Oh well.
